Cooperative Justice Conferencing is a dynamic approach to resolving conflict - from staff - management issues to harassment /bullying and working towards healing harm.
Our legal system and the court process fail many people in that they do not allow the victim's side to have a voice. The offender is punished by the law, but victims often feel unfulfilled. The conferencing process allows victims and their families to do what can't be done in court, that is, have the opportunity to face the offender directly and express their emotions and describe how the crime has impacted on their life.
For juvenile offenders, a conference can be an alternative to the courts (as a diversionary process), where the victims participate in identifying appropriate punishments. For adults the conference is held any time after sentencing - a secure environment is arranged by the correctional centre.
People who have experienced the impact of violence, road trauma or crime on their lives can be empowered to move forward through a 'Cooperative Justice Conference' (also known as 'Restorative' Justice Conference). Our founder, Ken Marslew, has participated in a conference where he met with the killers of his son Michael.
